( clicking these links will not start any downloads or change anything on your computer ) (hide this notification) home groups members meetings ‹ a place of... beauty welcome to northwestern theory ‹ a place of... collegiality welcome to northwestern theory ‹ a place of... computation welcome to northwestern theory ‹ a place of... models welcome to northwestern theory ‹ a place of... energy welcome to northwestern theory a leader in computational chemistry the advent of supercomputing, the development of new methodologies both for static and dynamic study of chemical processes, the growing sophistication of experimental techniques, and the interest of the chemical community in fundamental understanding have propelled the topic of theoretical and computational chemistry to the very top of the intellectual horizons in chemical science. at northwestern, the chemistry department has responded to this challenge by increasing the faculty representation of theoretical chemists, and by fostering very close collaborations with such sister disciplines as materials science, chemical and biological engineering, physics, molecular biosciences, applied mathematics, and pure mathematics. the result of these changes is a very robust program in theoretical/computational chemistry, one that reaches from fundamental treatment of coherence processes to highly accurate wave function methods, from time-dependent dynamical studies to control of chemical reactions, and from the structure and function of biological membranes to the effects of ionic bombardment on the lifetime of space probes. in addition to the broad scope and depth of the theory/computation efforts at northwestern, very close collaboration with experiment and experimentalists has been a hallmark of our efforts, and remains so. these collaborations extend all the way from suggesting new molecules for photovoltaics and interfacial electron transport to developing insights into ultra-short dynamics of quantum systems, and the onset of decoherence. indeed, there are many graduate students and postdoctoral fellows who have shared appointments with two faculty members, often two theorists and more often a theorist and an experimentalist. this integration between experiment and theory is again a hallmark of northwestern, and one that provides new excitement and new challenge. more details are available on the individual websites of the investigators involved. we invite your questions and interest – emails and queries can be directed to any of the members, or to northwestern theory home groups members meetings --
